Charlotte -- The Charlotte office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation honored the First Baptist Church - West Community Service Association at a luncheon on Friday for its gang prevention program.

The program called, "Gang Alternative Principles", takes at-risk young people and works with them to steer them away from the influence of gangs and into more positive roles.

The award was presented during the Association's first "Touch of Gold Luncheon", held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Center City Charlotte.

The guest of honor at the luncheon was South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn, who praised the Community Service Association by saying, "Your real faith is in your works."

The Gang Alternative Principles program is the largest community-based gang prevention program in Mecklenburg County.
