East Charlotte bank robbed, several suspects arrested, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Police have arrested several people they say robbed a Charlotte bank Monday morning.

The robbery was reported before 9 a.m. at the Bank of America on the 6400 block of Albemarle Road, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The suspects left the scene in a white car and crashed it in a nearby neighborhood off Lawyers Road and Rolling Oak Lane.

No injuries have been reported.

Operation "Road Watch" ends on successful note

The Highway Patrol completed its Operation "Road Watch" campaign after a two-day intensive enforcement effort on I-85 in Cleveland and surrounding counties. 

During the two-day event, which began on Tuesday, May 14, and ended on Wednesday, May 15, Troopers concentrated on commercial motor vehicle violations as well as focused their attention on motorists who were driving aggressively around big trucks, speeding, tailgating, and driving aggressively.

Established in 2007, Operation "Road Watch" was designed to improve commercial motor vehicle safety as well as the efficiency of commercial vehicle operations.

Arrest made in east Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Police in Charlotte say they have arrested a man in connection to an east Charlotte shooting Friday night.

Demarcus Martel Melvin, 23, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

He is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he will remain. 

Police responded to the call around 9 p.m. Friday night on the 6200 block of Old Meadow Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to CMC-Main where he was pronounced deceased Saturday morning at 6:47 a.m. as a result of his injures. The victim has been identified as Terrance Mingo.

Arrest made in east Charlotte house party shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Police in Charlotte say they have arrested a man that shot five people at an east Charlotte house party on Saturday.

El Contanase Steele, 36, is charged with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by felon, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police were called out to a house on the 7300 block of William Reynolds Drive around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Report: Ex-husband attacks woman with hatchet, hurls boulder at car

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- A woman tells police that her ex-husband tried to attack her with a hatchet on Tuesday.

The incident was reported on the 5700 of Stephanie Street at 6:30 p.m., according to the report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The said her ex-husband came at her a hatchet in and aggressive manner trying to harm.

When she tried to leave in her car her hurled the hatchet at her.

He then picked up a boulder off the ground and launched it at the car, damaging the passenger side door, according to the report.

Damage to the 2002 Ford Focus is estimated $100.

The woman was not injured.

Police are investigating.

One shot in east Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Charlotte police are investigating a shooting in east Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of Kilbourne Drive near Central Avenue, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police say one person has been shot and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The investigating is ongoing.

Report: Woman chased by car, stabbed 9 times

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Police in Charlotte say a Charlotte woman was stabbed nine times after being forced to pull her vehicle over in an elementary school parking lot.

The incident was reported on Sunday at 8:43 p.m. at Winterfield Elementary School, according to the report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The 26-year-old female told police she was driving to meet her boyfriend for dinner when she noticed a vehicle was following her and flashing their lights trying to get her to pull over.

The woman pulled into the school parking lot to try and get away from the vehicle.

The vehicle then blocked her in the parking lot. The driver pulled out a gun and pointed it at her while a passenger got out of the vehicle with a knife and tried to cut her face, according to the report.

The woman struggled against the passenger but she was stabbed nine times in the process.

The vehicle left the scene before police arrived.
