Wednesday, the newest numbers were released showing how often people in North Carolina use their seatbelts.

The June seatbelt usage rate for Mecklenburg County was 92.7%. That’s up from 89.6% from the last study.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said, since April, the department has focused on seatbelt operations during the day and at night. That push for seatbelt safety has led to more than 500 citations, along with other charges and arrests.

CMPD says the department will continue to push for seatbelt safety.

Other counties with 90% or higher seatbelt usage include Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Harnett, Johnston, and Rowan counties.
