Vandals throw rocks at woman's car in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police say four people damaged a woman's car by throwing rocks.

The incident happened in east Charlotte on Jonquil Street in the Grier Heights neighborhood.

Leanna Deaton told police the incident happened Thursday around 7 p.m.

The suspects threw rocks at Deaton's car which caused a small crack on the windshield.

Woman finds stranger sleeping inside her car

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police arrested a person who was found sleeping inside a woman's car Thursday morning in east Charlotte.

The incident happened at 4327 Colwick Road which is near the intersection of Sharon Amity Road and Randolph Road.

When victim went to her vehicle parked outside her apartment, she saw a woman sleeping inside the victim's car.

The victim didn't know the woman and she immediately called 911.

When police arrived, the suspect gave the officer a fictitious name and resisted being handcuffed. 

The suspect was later taken to the Mecklenburg County jail.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools magnet student-assignment lottery application will open, Friday, Jan. 7. CMS families can go online to apply for magnet programs.

The online lottery will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day through Feb. 6. On Feb. 7, the last day of the lottery-application period, the application will close at 10 p.m.

CMS has been sending personalized instruction sheets home with all current students this week. Some students may receive their packets early next week. Students who will be new to CMS, and students who are assigned to Title I Choice schools, received the information in the mail.

The sheets include student identification and PIN numbers, as well as directions to apply online. The sheets also list a student’s current assignment for the 2011-2012 school year.

Officer hurt in chase still in hospital for broken arms, knee and femur

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One of the two officers involved in a wild police chase and crash the week after Christmas is seriously injured and still in the hospital, a group says. 

Officer Keith Trietley had to have the roof of his car cut off and was the most seriously hurt in the incident that happened on Dec. 30.  In a head-on crash with the suspect's truck, Trietley had two broken arms, shattered knee cap and broken right femur. 

Because of the extent of his injuries, Trietley, who has had multiple surgeries, will not be able to return to duty for an undetermined length of time and will be undergoing extensive physical therapy, a group called April Five said.

 Richard Grubb was the other officer hurt.  Police say the suspect rammed into his squad car earlier in the chase.  His injuries were far less serious.

Alert homeowner helps police nab teen breaking into cars, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police say they were able to quickly arrest a car break-in suspect thanks to a tip from a resident who immediately called cops.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a woman called 911 on Sunday after witnessing two suspects breaking into cars along the 6200 block of Monroe Road.

The woman gave police a detailed description of both suspects as well as their exact location. 

When police officers arrived on the scene, they located the suspects. 

The witness was taken to the scene and positively identified one of the young men responsible for the break-in.  She was unable to identify the other person, police said.

Emmitt Jamil Carter, 17, was arrested and charged him with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
